Hop aboard the charming narrow gauge railway in the rural Surrey countryside.
Situated in the Rural Life Living Museum, a peaceful, Open Air, Village museam, bordering RSPB Heathland; the Old kiln railway takes you on short but characterful journey, behind one of the many preserved locomotives from all walks of life.
From the forests of Portugal, to the Welsh Slate Quarries of Penrhyn, our fine collection of preserved locomotives and stock provides an abundance of railway history to discover and enjoy.
The railway operates a diesel service for visitors most Sundays, during the Rural Life Living Museum’s main opening season. Steam is usually reserved for the more popular special events, all dates are subject to change with regards to locomotive or volunteer availability.
Access to the railway is via the Rural Life Living Museum, train fares are £5 per Compartment for a maximum of 2 people, additional passengers within the compartment are £2.50 each. The maximum group size is 6 people.
Please note we can only accommodate 4 groups per train, therefore during peak times there may be a wait.
When riding on our railway please be mindful of the social distancing measures imposed by covid-19.
Trains run from Old kiln Halt by the works yard from 11am until 16.30pm approximately.
With the following measures in place.
1) A one way system on and off the platform and waiting area outside of station.
2) A ticket office sited near the platform where we accept cashless payments as well as cash.
3) Trains will run as and when after cleaning of the carriages has taken place, you will then be allowed into the booking office area to purchase your tickets.
4) Restricted capacity : a maximum of 4 groups of up to 6 people will be allowed on the train at anyone time.
5) Social distancing of 2 meters apart.
